Impossible Dream: The Ronnie Moore Years

The prospect of Rotherham United back in the Championship seemed a long way off during the dark days of Don Valley Stadium. But following the appointment of manager Steve Evans in 2012 and the return ‘home’ to New York Stadium the Millers embarked on an amazing journey that began with promotion from League Two in 2012/13 and ended with that glorious day in the League One play-off final at Wembley, where victory over Leyton Orient on penalties secured a return to the second tier for the first time since 2004.

That delirium-inducing day at Wembley was the perfect climax to a stunning campaign for the Millers, who took League One by storm in their first season there in seven years. Their brand of counter-attacking, high-intensity football saw them register some of the best stats in the club’s history and across the whole of the Football League as they earned back-to-back promotions for the second time in their history.
